Women’s Lacrosse Awarded 2017 Friend of Abbott House Award

October 19, 2017 By Team Up 4 Community Leave a Comment

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2017) – The Mercy College women’s lacrosse team was awarded the 2017 Friend of Abbott House Award last night at the Abbott House’s Loving Arms Award Dinner held at Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown.

The Friend of Abbott House Award is presented annually to individuals who exemplify generosity, advocacy, volunteerism, and overall support of the Abbott House mission.

Tri-captains Grace Davidson, Hope Coticchio and Emily Jehle accompanied Mercy College Women’s Lacrosse Alumnae Jillian Rocco who accepted the award on behalf of the team.  “I am extremely moved by how my teams’ efforts at the Abbott House these past few years has been received by the men they go and see each week” said Mercy College Women’s Lacrosse Coach, Dawn Sachs.  “To see the relationships that have grown and flourished over these years between our players and the men of the Abbott House truly warms my heart.”

Throughout the last five years, the women’s lacrosse team has volunteered weekly to play basketball with adults with developmental disabilities. Not only does this allow for some fun and stress relief, but it affords these individuals the opportunity to socialize, develop their strengths and talents, and engage with the local community- all simple, yet essential skills to their growth.

The night was filled with great speeches from all award recipients, fundraising efforts and concluded with a silent auction.  Mercy College’s very own Dr. Ann Grow was also an award recipient and received the Dignity of Family Life Award for her contributions to the Abbott House.
